Fast facts

The Birth and Baby Resource Network will open a San Luis Obispo center at 849 Monterey St. to help inform the community about pregnancy, birth, and early parenting. The official opening is at 4 p.m. on April 26. The network is a nonprofit community-based volunteer organization that seeks to help educate and support childbearing women and their families. The group is also planning a lending library with information about childcare, breast-feeding, pregnancy, and related issues.

"I hope it becomes a place people feel free to come in and share ideas and learn from each other," said member and volunteer Andrea Rooks. The fees for the center were raised through fundraisers, with the annual Birth and Baby Fair as the largest moneymaker. This year's fair will be held May 12 in Mission Plaza.
