Arroyo Grande Community Hospital will be host to “Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Educational Forum” at the Clark Center at Arroyo Grande High School on May 31, from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the event starting promptly a half hour later. The hospital is preparing to soon open the doors to its Coastal Cancer Care and Diagnostic Center. Urologist Craig Canfield, M.D.; Gastroenterologist Jeffery Mundorf, M.D.; Radiologists Stephen R. Holtzman, M.D.; Edward DeLeonardis, M.D.; Obstetrician and Gynecologist Randall Safarik, M.D.; and Registered Dietitian Danielle Landry, M.S., R.D. will speak, addressing cancer risk factors, risk reduction, early detection, and more. The event is free, but reservations are required. Call Roberta Alderete, AGCH Community Educator, at 473-7662.

On May 11—Mother’s Day—San Luis Obispo’s Noor Jewelry will celebrate its two-year anniversary. Owner Adrian Bray’s shop carries traditional diamond, platinum, and gold jewelry, as well as glass adornments and precious stones. It’s located at 1108 Broad St.

The Community Counseling Center’s Dream Trip fundraising raffle has started, and offers a grand prize of a $1,000 travel voucher and a first prize of a $500 travel voucher, both from Gulliver’s Travel in San Luis Obispo. There are a half-dozen second-place prizes, too. Tickets cost $10, or three for $25. To buy them, call the center at 543-7969 or drop by the office at 1129 Marsh St. between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The winning tickets will be drawn on June 20 during the center’s 40th anniversary open house. The Community Counseling Center is a nonprofit that provides counseling to low-income people who are uninsured.
