Expanding dreams

Want fries with that? Margie's Diner, a San Luis Obispo institution for more than 30 years, will close temporarily as the restaurant changes owners and prepares for a building remodel. Don't freak out! The restaurant located on Calle Joaquin just off Highway 101 will remain an American-style diner, and you can still get massive portions in Paso Robles at the 24th Street location (whew!) ... Do you miss Fig in Atascadero? You'll need to swing by Fig at Courtney's House, a unique partnership between Fig Good Food restaurant and Courtney's House, providing community-based job training programs for adults with developmental disabilities. You can stop by yourself and grab a Cuban pork sandwich, a frittata stuffed with seasonal produce, or a Greek couscous salad all served on the patio of a gorgeous Victorian home (311 6th St. in Templeton; figgoodfood.com). Hayley Thomas Cain says to heck with controlled portion sizes (at least when it comes to Margie's hash browns). Send bites to hthomas@newtimesslo.com.
