Ed Arnold to be sentenced for possession of child porn, burglary

Former Arroyo Grande city councilman Ed Arnold pleaded no contest to possession of child pornography and one charge of first-degree burglary.

The plea, which isn’t an admission of guilt, was entered June 8. It will require Arnold to register as a sex offender for life and will put a first strike on his record for the burglary charge.

Arnold was arrested in December 2009 after a domestic violence call to police concerning his alleged assault of a 28-year-old woman. Arnold was later charged with possessing video of an underage foreign exchange student showering in his home.

He originally pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Attorneys involved in the case weren’t allowed to comment because of a gag order.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, public prosecutors plan to argue for a two-year prison sentence. Superior Court Judge Barry LaBarbera, however, asked to refer the case to county probation with a maximum sentence of six months in jail.

Arnold is scheduled to be sentenced July 12.
