ECHO helps homeless families

Paso Robles

You mentioned in your cover article (“Homework without a home,” Aug. 14, 2008), about children who are homeless, that the North County has an even higher percentage of children whose families lack housing than San Luis Obispo, but then did not mention the shelter that serves them. Left out of the ‘How you can Help’ section at the end of the article was ECHO (El Camino Homeless Organization), a nonprofit organization that could use volunteers to stay overnight, or do intake, or help create a wonderful home-cooked meal for the approximately 50 people who dine and 30 who stay overnight every night of the year.

We are asking, you are welcome, come check it out: Shelter and Food, 6370 Atascadero Ave., Atascadero (below the high school). Call 462-FOOD or visit www.echoshelter.org. Please get the word out and thank you.
