Don't treat heroes like terrorists

Atascadero

A provision in the new 9/11 health bill recently passed by Congress hits the thousands of first responders who were hailed as heroes a decade ago after the World Trade Center attack, and who later became sick as a result. They will soon be informed that their names must be run through the FBI’s terrorism watch list. If any of the responders do not comply, they will be barred from getting treatment for the numerous ailments they are experiencing. This from our “compassionate” government! And the media has paid scant notice to this absurdity.

Shades of the days of Joe McCarthy and his quest to rid America of communists by searching under every mattress, behind every tree and perhaps even the closet where J. Edgar kept his evening dresses.

One can only wonder if this silly, stupid, asinine provision might eventually be extended to our military men and women who have suffered grievous damage to their bodies. Can’t you just imagine a soldier being told that if he or she wanted a new leg or arm, or treatment for brain damage, they’d better comply or forget it.

What fools these mortals be!
