Don't lump Cambria into the North County

Cambria

Ed. note: The survey that Kathy Johnston reported on in “Our local looking-glass” (May 29)—commissioned by local government agencies, not New Times—put Cambria on the North Coast, a separate category from North County.

I wish your paper would stop doing surveys and dividing the results into North County and South County.

The opinions that you get from the Paso Robles/Templeton area have little to do with the opinions from the residents of Cambria/Cayucos, although I assume that we are included in what you refer to as “North County.”

The most recent survey is a perfect example. It reports that North County residents 1) couldn’t care less about air quality, 2) don’t believe climate change is a problem and isn’t man-made, 3) are supportive of rural development, and 4) resent terms like “global warming,” “carbon footprint,” “greenhouse gas,” etc. I do not believe that this reflects the attitude of the majority of Cambrians, and I have had the privilege of living in this blessed place for 28 years, so I have some feeling for the general concerns of the people here.

When I go to Paso Robles, I feel as if I could be in a different state. I’m not implying that one or the other is superior, only that our views and focus are not necessarily the same. I think that you have misrepresented the views of the majority of our part of North County. You even reported that your Focus Group met in Paso Robles.

Were Cambrians represented there at all?
