Regarding Glen Starkey’s B-17 article (“History lesson,” May 24). He leaves out the reason 640,000 tons of bombs were dropped on Germany—little things like the Holocaust (estimated 11 to 14 million dead by Germans), the invasion of most of the rest of Europe, and rockets into Great Britain.
If we hadn’t dropped the bombs, Starkey may be speaking either German or Japanese and most likely not able to write articles on any subject except what the Fuehrer authorizes. Personally, I think it is a good thing to remember why the bombs were dropped, not just the fact that they were dropped. It was a missed opportunity for him to teach Jaden all the facts of that history.
