Diablo gets a new resident inspector

Laura Micewski began her first day of work at the plant on May 9, she said. According to her NRC bio, Micewski joined the local NRC region as a project engineer in September 2009.

Prior to her arrival at Diablo, she worked on inspection teams at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, the Comanche Peak nuclear power plant, and the Fort Calhoun Station.

Before joining the NRC, she served as a surface nuclear warfare officer and engineering officer in the U.S. Navy.

Micewski replaces former inspector Tony Brown, who transferred to serve as senior resident inspector at the Palo Verde power plant in January.

Each commercial nuclear plant in the United States is staffed by at least two federal inspectors responsible for overseeing day-to-day plant operations. Micewski will join the NRC’s current senior resident inspector Michael Peck in conducting daily inspections and emergency preparedness planning for Diablo Canyon.

The public will have the opportunity to meet Micewski at an upcoming end-of-cycle meeting, scheduled to be held June 15 at the Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo.
