Democracy makes good TV

The best thing that has happened for democracy is televised hearings of our governments in public meetings. In this age of corporate television, everything is compromised by some corporate interest. They sell you the worst of the world, the nothingness.

The art of human intervention against the status quo (what happens when you do nothing) is alive and well on local television. In Los Osos we call it the Sewer Show. There are people who are so engrossed they stay up until 3 a.m. with us at meetings, just as incensed and concerned about the actions of our community services district as we, local activists who spend our lives there, are.

You are the couch activists, the watchers of taped reality, the eyes who can watch the human debate in a world that completely affects you (if you like living here). Will it be better or worse? Tune in - Channel 20 on the coast, 21 inland, and 2 for local talent. C-Span live, CNN sort of, and PBS is a little sold out but still presenting.

Try real life. Watch your community and government - there's a decision process whether it's where you shop or a sewer in the middle of your town or what's left of this world for your children. We don't need jive ... we need reaction. Get over your complacency. The frog's not boiled yet!
