Re: “A public allegiance

The insurance company that paid the 5 Million settlement over Andrew Hollands death did so based on the facts presented to it by the Sherriffs report, which has now been shown to be largely in error. At some point, they may want their 5 million back, based on misrepresentation by SLO County. The train wreck continues. New leadership is needed, vote Clayton for Sherriff.

Re: “The people's business

Sheriff Parkinson and friends held a Town Hall meeting in Santa Margarita last nite, 3/28. Most of the meeting involved lengthy discussion of small changes in crime statistics, and then lots of happy talk about how wonderful all the new programs are the Sheriff and DA were implementing to assist in school shooting situations and to improve the jail after the death of Andrew Holland.

And while ANY school shooting pre-planning is helpful, there was NO mention at all of the Elephant in the Room, ie the real problem of having rapid fire weapons of war commonly available. And that with the Parkland shooting over in 4 minutes, with the fire alarm pulled to get kids outside, there is very little the police can do to stop a determined shooter.

As for the death of Andrew Holland, the Sheriff continues to blame others, the system, the FBI, Sacramento, etc etc. and only recently has accepted some sort of leadership role responsibility (but nothing personal). But the facts remain that Andrew Holland died in HIS jail, under the direct watch of HIS deputies, following HIS instructions and HIS protocols. Andrew Hollands death is HIS responsibility. And the Elephant in the Room here is why did all these new changes he is talking about only start after Andrews death?? Why didnt they start after the (pick a number) 1-11 deaths at the jail preceding Andrews death??

Leadership matters, and Sheriff Parkinson is responsible for some serious mistakes. When you get voted into office, its not a life time job. I wish Mr. Parkinson well in his next career, but its time to vote someone else into the Sheriffs Office and see if they can bring new ideas to the table.

Re: “All lying liars must resign!

Andrew Holland was hog-tied to a chair for 46 hrs, with very very little movement allowed. Blood clots formed, and when he was finally released and moved around some, the clots broke loose and traveled to his lungs and killed him. Jail deputies watched him during this entire time, and did nothing to prevent his death. Thats Homicide folks, when someone dies because of anothers actions. Sheriff Parkinson is trying his best to deflect blame away from him, but he personally ok'd putting him that chair, and left him there to die. He can wank and wank about how "its somebody else's fault", but the truth has come out and the video is clear as to what happened.

Re: “Sorry, Lynn Compton: Doesn't work that way

Thank you, James Sofranko, for your excellent retort to Ms. Comptons' arrogance. As I wrote before, she dances to her COLAB puppetmasters, and shows little compassion for working people. When she voted a few months ago to make all the little people pay for the 6 Million $$ ground water study in North County that the big Ag folks involved had ALREADY AGREED TO PAY FOR, she showed her true colors. Yep, you folks down in South county are now paying for Paso Robles water studies. Don't think that is fair?? Vote Jimmy Paulding in June, make the needed change happen.

Re: “Priorities

The Shredder, well, Shreds it again

" I claim your protocols suck, Ian. Theyre clearly inadequate, inhumane, and ineffective."

That just about sums it up.

Re: “Gun-free Australia

Gary Wechter takes his own liberties with Wikipedia data. He cleverly lumps all mass killings together, failing to mention that of the total 13, only 4 involved guns. And of those 4, they involved respectively 3,2,5, & 3 victims. This is not mass murder in the form seen in the USA, where 10 60 have been recently slaughtered in each event. They are local disputes, usually between people who know each other, and are not the same as mass slaughter of school children or random murder from a Las Vegas skyscraper.
Gary Wechter also takes great liberties in his character assassination of Ken McCalip, the author of the original letter;

"Ken McCalip either lied or failed to check his facts when he stated that since 1996, when Australia banned and confiscated certain types of weapons, they've "had 'zero' mass shootings" ("Australia got tough," March 1). "

Since all the mass shootings involved only the above 3,2,5, &3 victims, which do NOT represent mass shootings by our recent standards, Mr Wechter could easily be accused of the same lies and failures that he accuses Mr. McCalip of.
His final attack on Mr McCalip,

" If Mr. McCalip wants to argue to confiscate and ban the sale of certain types of guns, I'm all for hearing his and other opinions. But for his argument to have any validity it needs to be based on real, not fake, facts and he just didn't live up to that standard in his commentary."

truly leaves one in bewilderment, wondering if Mr Wechter has read his own writings. Having based his entire attack on mis-direction and mis-representation, it is unclear what standard he is trying to uphold in his own letter.
