APPLICATION HELP | PRIORITY ONE REGISTRATION | REGROUP

Ladies and gentlemen, November has arrived for the students of Cuesta College. Were this column this week at all to spotlight Cal Poly, the same could be said for its students, but for now, here’s hoping they’re enjoying a never-ending Halloween.

As of All Hallow’s Eve’s own Eve, the Find Classes feature for Cuesta College has gone online to offer a hearty sneak peek at what the Spring 2016 semester could offer. Begin planning your semester now and don’t forget to sign up as soon as you are able. For students utilizing Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE), California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKS), Veterans, and Foster Youth, priority one registration begins on Nov. 12.

But what of the students wishing to flee their whiskered nest toward greener mixed metaphor pastures? Until Nov. 30, on Monday through Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., the Transfer Center (room 3131) is offering assistance with completing university applications. Heading to a CSU? A UC? That big horse one with the bowling alley you accidentally got lost at when getting off the bus too early? Never fear! Just please arrive as prepared for the process as possible—financial information, knowledge of what classes you would like to take, copies of transcripts, and get in a word with a Cuesta counselor first too. The service will not be available on Nov. 11.

Finally, a service that you’ll hopefully never need. I will not go into detail about the great myriad possible emergencies that could happen on a school campus. Rather than allow your mind to wander on a particularly dismal day about what could possibly go wrong, please sign up for the “ReGroup” program. It is an electronic program that in the case of any school-wide emergency, will rapidly distribute text messages to your cell phone, keeping you informed of what is going on and how to remain safe. You can find a link to sign up at the bottom of Cuesta’s main page on its website.
