The hoary frost of Winter’s breath was stifled with a gasp. The engineer … err … blacksmith on his graphite sword did clasp. The tyranny of Skanntronne filled the hallowed halls no more, but peace, it seemed, would shortly live, when came Semester Four.
What is this madness? The week’s relaxation is approaching a tragic end? With four days (as of Thursday, March 22) remaining before Spring Quarter, Mustangs have no choice but to be valiant and resourceful with the rest of their time. Crucial decisions arise, such as what philosophers refer to as the “Aesthetic/Gastronomic Dilemma” (whether one should seek out an art exhibit or a nice place to eat). This dilemma is easily solved, however.
Why choose when you don’t have to?
One of the many solutions to the problem lies at Linneae’s Cafe. Through March 31, the cafe will be host to Pauline Shreiner’s “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blues Fish” exhibit. The product of the 2011 Live Oak Music Festival, the paintings are Dr. Seuss-inspired twists on classic LP album covers. The quirky collection can be found at 1110 Garden St., SLO.
Maybe you’re feeling more “play”ful. After sending your hit men after me once you get the terrible pun, there are plenty of stage productions available to enjoy, too. The wonderful talent at the Great American Melodrama is performing The Three Musketeers through April 22, followed by a vaudeville show. The adventure can be enjoyed for $20 every Wednesday or Thursday at 7 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 4 and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 6 p.m. Check it out at 1863 Pacific Blvd., Oceano.
And what about a FREE movie? *cough* Sorry about that; sometimes I forget that “free” isn’t actually spelled in all caps. The San Luis Obispo Library continues its free film festival with Sam Peckinpah’s Straw Dogs on March 24. The psychological thriller, starring Dustin Hoffman and Susan George, is considered to be one of the director’s greatest films. The movie will be shown at 2 p.m. in the Library’s Community Room. Some words of warning, however: The film is intense and violent.
There are many, many more options available to enjoy on your break, so whatever you choose, Mustangs, enjoy it!
