Cougars & Mustangs

Besides sleeping hi, low, to, fro, how do you plan to spend your ever-ripening summer break? Will you be taking up somnambulism as part of a new exercise routine? Joining a flea circus? Well, if you’ve got six weeks to spare and Friday, June 21 isn’t over yet, you can sign up for summer classes at Cuesta. Get your GE out of the way, try education at a different pace, take classes you’ve never had the time for, and the like. The cost is $46 per unit, and there are more than 200 courses. I hear it can be a really refreshing experience getting classes done that fast, and according to the ads I recall seeing plastered about there’s still plenty of time for a summer break, which is true. For some people, summer classes are like having a summer break. That’s some neat drive, there.

Speaking of Cuesta, the new Paso Robles Smart & Final presented the college with a check for $2,500 earmarked for the North County Campus’s Estrella Career Center. The Estrella Career Center helps local employers as well as job seekers; in March, the center’s first major job recruitment led to 51 applicants successfully completing the hiring process at Smart & Final, which led to this thank you bank note from the location. June 12—the store’s official opening—saw the hires starting their new positions right off the bat. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., employment search services are available at the center. Check ’em out, as a summer job might do ya good too. Congratulations to the center, the students, and heck, even Smart & Final for this achievement.

Of course, there are plenty of other things to do if you’re just going to chill this summer—visit the beach, visit the other beach, visit the other, other beach, go to Farmers Market, go to one of the less-frequently-mentioned Farmers Markets, visit Avila Valley Barn, try to find color swatches to tell you the exact name of the pinks at the Madonna Inn, go to the park, go to the other park—buuut that’s all coming later, and you probably know the vast majority of it already. Still, doesn’t hurt to remind ya.
