Cougars & Mustangs: 'Twas the day after Christmas

Ah, the day after Christmas. A day for reflection on events past as one stares at the snow-laded fields outside … Only, y’know, when you live in San Luis Obispo, you’re never going to actually see that snow. The idea is even funnier considering that winter actually starts in the month of December. Ultimately, whether or not you even celebrate Christmas in the first place, this is just another day, in another week, in another year … A year that shall soon roll over to 2014.

Dear readers, I hope ’13 wasn’t too harsh on you! But really, just another year, just another day. Things are what you make of them, and that excitement about Christmas you may have felt is a real place inside you that, if you learn how, can be tapped into for other occasions as well. Don’t trick yourself into thinking that being excitable is a bad thing, and that you’re a failure if your year didn’t go the way it was planned. Mine certainly didn’t go the way I had planned, but I wouldn’t trade it in for anything! If you’re fretting about those New Year’s resolutions, then don’t—don’t even start. Things will fall into place in time.

So, what are some cool last minute 2013 things? Well, for one, Cuesta’s original play, pool ’63, has been chosen to receive a full production in Los Angeles for the 2014 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. The play is one of only nine chosen to participate in the festival this year. The play, with its story drawn from Birmingham, Alabama, during the civil rights movement in 1963, had not even been entered into the competition for consideration, but viewers were in such a flutter that the committee chair flew in from Los Angeles to see it personally. The play was popular enough that it frequently sold out, preventing certain people who made it to the theater from having seats. Repeat performances are scheduled for next semester, and more information about that will be given closer to that time.

That does remind me, though. Don’t forget to sign up for your next semester/quarter of school. I know it’s easy to forget or at least want to forget when you’ve finally made it out of class, but some of the good stuff can get filled up pretty quickly and it’s good to just get it off your mind.
