Standing in front of the new San Luis Obispo County Government Center with his family and campaign staff this week, Bruce Gibson announced his bid to run for 2nd District county supervisor in June 2006.
Standing at Gibson's side for part of the press conference was Shirley Bianchi, the current 2nd District supervisor who recently announced her intention to not run for another term.
Bianchi praised Gibson for his "awesome record" as the current planning commissioner for the 2nd District, before running off to finish a Board of Supervisor's meeting and leaving Gibson to talk about the orange ranch he farms in Cayucos, his sons, and what he feels is the county's most important issue.
"Land use is the highest priority," he said.
Gibson, who was appointed to the planning commission by Bianchi, has a master's degree and a Ph.D. in geophysics and a background in exploration seismology. In the 16 years he's lived in Cayucos with his family, he served as president of the board of directors for the county's Land Conservatory, and on the Cayucos Community Advisory Council and Cayucos Land Conservancy.
Looking ahead to the upcoming race, Gibson said he doesn't look forward to the campaigning. "But I do look forward to getting out and getting to meeting people."
