Clarification:

In the article, “Autism services are extensive, but questioned,” (Aug. 14), The San Luis Obispo County Office of Education is referred to as a monitor for the SLO County school districts’ autism programs. The Office of Education provides autism programs for some school districts, but does not monitor district programs. The school districts are ultimately responsible for their autism programs, as designated by their SELPA (Special Education Local Plan Area), which is reviewed and approved by the California Department of Education. Additionally, Tri-Counties Regional Center is responsible for implementing IPPs (Individual Program Plans), not IEPs (Individualized Education Programs).
