The Green Lotus Energy Center, a new holistic transformation hub that offers everything from yoga to herbal healing, has opened its doors in Morro Bay. Owner Janne John received her training from Deepak Chopra, a leader in the field of mind-body medicine, and holds the elite title of Vedic Master, an expert in all three of Chopra Center’s teacher’s paths, which includes primordial sound meditation, the seven spiritual laws of yoga, and perfect health.
John, a Central Coast resident for the past 30 years, bought the property that’s now home to the Green Lotus in 2006.
“I always wanted to have a place to practice yoga, meditation, and ayurveda,” she explained.
The location at 550 Morro Bay Blvd. went through a phase as an art gallery and an event center, but John always had a different vision for the unique space.
“The idea to change this place into something like this was always in the back of my mind,” she explained.
The house was built in 1905 and is chock full of character. Large windows let in an abundance of natural light, and the high ceilings and hardwood floors make the main room feel warm and spacious. A vibrant painting of the Hindu god Ganesh—a figure with an elephant head and multiple arms, known as the remover of obstacles—provides the focal point of the room. The inside of the house also contains a private massage room and an updated kitchen where John eventually would like to hold raw food classes. Outside is a deck and a large patio inlaid with stones, containing the images of both the sun and moon.
John hopes the Green Lotus will serve as a sort of one-stop shop where people can find whatever they need to heal their mind, body, or soul.
“I want to have several different types of teachings and treatments, so that people can come to one place and they can choose,” she said. “If they want to have a massage, if they want to sit down and have a meditation or take some yoga or practice chi gong on the patio, they have a choice.”
With this goal in mind, John allows teachers of many different holistic methods to rent out the space by the hour and hold their classes on-site.
“We have medicinal herbology, we have an astrologer, tai chi and qigong feature, yoga feature, meditation, and ayurveda,” John said. “We have some healing practices, too.”
John said she wants the Green Lotus to be a place for people in the community to unwind and center themselves.
“I’ve had so many people say, ‘I need me time. I need a place to go to decompress.’ Especially because the economy has forced people to rethink what is important. Is it whether or not I keep my house or whether or not I keep my sanity?” John said.
