Cal Poly's not interested in senior citizens

I was interested to see the Street Talk responses to the question in the Feb. 18 New Times: “If you were to go back to school, what would you study and why?” But it brought to mind a warning that I’d like to offer other seniors (older folk).

When I moved to the beautiful Central Coast several years ago for “pre-retirement,” I had in mind the dream of going back to school to study history—a subject I loved but did not choose as a career the first time around. As it had been several decades since college, I even went to Cuesta College to complete an AA as a way of getting back into academics with the hope of going to Cal Poly as a transfer student.

Unfortunately, I was brought up short when I learned from Cal Poly admissions that they do not allow students to pursue a second bachelor’s degree. Done!

Returning seniors with a dream of going back to school to pursue a formal course of study, beware! If you’ve got a degree—no matter how long ago—Cal Poly doesn’t want you.
