Bruce Gibson seeks re-election

Incumbent Bruce Gibson formally announced on Jan. 14 his bid to seek re-election to represent the 2nd District on the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors.

The district includes northwestern San Luis Obispo and extends up the coast to the Monterey County line. Gibson, who’s been supervisor since 2006 and is currently the board’s chair, will face Cambria resident Muril Clift, a retired insurance agent who’s a Cambria Community Services director and who chaired the Local Agency Formation Commission in 2013. No other candidates have announced a candidacy.

“I’m running on my record.,” Gibson told New Times. “I can point to each community within my district; I’ve worked with community members and local agencies and state agencies and federal agencies as appropriate to get things done for each community that I represent.”

Clift announced his candidacy in October. The two candidates have expressed different approaches—and the role of the county—in dealing with a severe water shortage in Cambria.
