Bristols Hard Cider's Rackham and Vina Robles' 2014 White4

Remember bobbing for apples during Halloween? Me neither. Let’s cheer the fact that we were born in the age of pre-packaged mini candies! What better way to celebrate apple season than with a bottle of Bristols Hard Cider’s Rackham? Made with 100 percent Braeburn apples dry hopped with Citra, Amarillo, and Belma hops, this crisp adult beverage is worth a whole pillowcase of candy. Wanna trade?

Bristols Hard Cider’s Rackham—$9 per bottle; Bristols Ciderhouse, 3220 El Camino Real, Atascadero.

They say that every seven years, you look back and your whole life has changed. Seven years ago, I was a wide-eyed 21-year-old wannabe rocker with too much eyeliner and a pretty pitiful palate. A lot has changed since then, especially my taste in wines. No longer am I in the “red only” club. White wines are now my best friends—I don’t know how I’d survive (or cook) without them. This blend of viognier, vermentino, verdelho, and sauvignon blanc sourced from Vina Robles’ famous Huerhuero and Jardine Vineyards is peachy, with mango and honeysuckle flourishes. You red wine drinkers need to try this completely non-oaked white (the fruit is fermented in stainless steel tanks). And don’t trust anyone who won’t go through the entire tasting list. That’s just wrong.

Vina Robles’ 2014 White4—$16 a bottle; 3700 Mill Road, Paso Robles.
