Bad paint

Does anyone care anymore? I purchased a $15 can of primer from a chain store to paint my daughter’s bedroom. Once we began applying the primer we immediately noted an overwhelming odor. Without delay we put on masks and began ventilating the room. We allowed the primer to dry for several hours before adding two coats of paint to the wall. The odor that followed was so strong it made us sick to our stomachs!


 At first we thought that the room just needed to air out overnight and made arrangements to have our daughter stay the night at a friend’s house. The following morning the aroma from the room had only worsened. After waiting five days with the situation not improving, we called the manufacturer. The manufacturer arranged for a representative to come take samples of the paint from the can. Upon entering the room he informed me that the paint was a “bad batch.” He had confirmed this by buying another can from the same batch number from a store in Southern California. He then told me the company would take care of all damages. After waiting a few days and hearing nothing from the manufacturer, I tried calling them. My calls were not returned so I called the representative who came to the house. He then told me that he would see to it the manufacturer would call me that day. Within an hour I heard back from the manufacturer, who stated that there was no problem.


To return our living situation to normal I had no choice but to have the room completely gutted. By the end of my ordeal, a $15 can of paint ended up costing me over $6,000. The only conclusive test to determine what exactly is in the paint is estimated to cost around $10,000, and I am being asked to provide the test. Without this test the company will not provide any type of compensation. I am trying to find other people who have experienced similar issues with locally bought primer/paint. Can anyone help?
