PASO ROBLES ART ASSOCIATION’S MAGNUM MASTERPIECES INVITATIONAL ART SHOW AND FUNDRAISER generates proceeds to establish and equip a new facility, the Showroom Gallery, in the heart of downtown Paso Robles. The show features a group of 30 or so imperial-size (6 liter) empty wine bottles handpainted by some of the area’s most collected artists, including Frank Liscko. See them March 27-April 21 in area wineries, hotels, restaurants, and other retail locations. The masterpieces will be brought together at the Showroom Gallery (on Pine Street, across from City Park), as a featured attraction during the 27th Annual Paso Robles Wine Festival in May. JOYBURTON HEISIG is the featured artist on March 29 at the Cayucos Community Art Gallery, with a show through May 14. Heisig was classically trained in numerous art mediums and now uses a combination of acrylic and watercolor on Asian silk fabrics and paper, creating collages and paintings. ERASING THE PAST, BUILDING THE FUTURE is a photojournalist exhibit by local artist Janet Allenspach. The show details the lives and challenges of ex-gang members in Central California on display from April 1-12 at the San Luis Obispo Art Center's Nybak Wing. A reception on April 3 from 6-8pm is part of Art After Dark. The images tell stories of people struggling to re-enter the community by becoming clean and sober, breaking the barriers of abuse and incarceration, and removing anti-social, visible, and often gang-related tattoos. SAN LUIS BEAUTIFUL—ART AT THE OCTAGON BARN takes place May 2-3, hosted by the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County, in celebration of its 25th anniversary. This festival of fine art, music, and history will feature original artwork by artisans from San Luis Outdoor Painters for the Environment, a local guild for Central Coast talent. PASO ROBLES FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS features “Follow the River, Paint the Dream” on May 23 from 9am-5pm, with concerts starting at 4pm. Everything kicks off with a plein air quick draw competition and auction, followed by a fine art exhibition, art demonstrations, a public mural project, hands-on children’s art, live music, and performances. SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY SPRING EXHIBIT: YACO’S CHOCOLATE SOUP: PICTURING SLO’S DOWNTOWN REVIVAL shows May 29 at 5:30pm and will stir up memories for people who knew the restaurant. Artist Richard Yaco will be on hand to share stories of his Chocolate Soup portraits. Learn about the ever-changing face of downtown San Luis Obispo. This evening will be filled with music, food, wine, and plenty of chocolate. $45.
