A lot of nothing 

Blah, blah, blah is all I get from Michael Latner’s 700-plus word rambling commentary (“Safeguards against insurrection,” April 20). Nothing new, sadly misleading, and valueless except as stimulus to share my opinion.

Among other nonsense, Mr. Latner states that President Trump made “the outlandish claim that President Obama personally tapped his phones …” But if you review the actual tweet which reads, “Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” you’ll notice the word “personally” does not appear. However, Mr. Latner seems unconcerned about inserting it to mislead your readers. As new information surfaces, it now appears that while President Obama was in office, the Justice Department did, indeed, wiretap a member of Trump’s team. Seems to me that President Trump shared a reasonably accurate tweet.

As he closes in on his first 100 days in office, President Trump has behaved in a lawful manner while following through on the campaign promises that got him elected. He’s had many successes, think Supreme Court Justice Gorsuch, as well as some challenges, like the vote to repeal Obamacare, but all activities and effort were conducted within the law. This reality is often hidden by the dishonest media’s (NBC, CBS, ABC Evening News) reporting. For example, from Jan. 20 to April 9, there were 1,501 negative vs. 186 positive stories during our president’s supposed honeymoon period (reported by Media Research Center). And, yes, I think the so-called mainstream media is dishonest in its reporting, operates as a cheerleader for the Democratic Party and poses a bigger threat to our republic than anything Donald Trump might do.

Please, Mr. Latner, if you can’t be fair and balanced, at least try to be accurate. That’s the least I would expect from political science professor and the Master of Public Policy Program director at Cal Poly.
