I agree "There is no easy answer", no quick fix. Homelessness is truly caused in our society by the high cost of living partnered with an inability to maintain a livable steady income.
Its a real struggle when you live paycheck to paycheck and your one check away from being homeless.
Once you become homeless it become an unclimbable mountain to cross back into getting housing again.
Once you become homeless people's opinion seems to change about you, even when you haven't changed.
So Please dont clump the homeless as all being transient mentally ill, because families with babies become homeless, students become homeless, as well as working single men and working single women. The homeless without jobs has it hardest. Being without hope and a place to stay is hard enough and can wear anyone down over time. I have compassion for the homeless because I have been there.
On a limited income I live a no frills, simple life just to keep my current home.
I try to help our homeless one person at a time and pray for them. All it would take is one word of encouragement, one act of kindness (so please be kind). We live in California and with one strong earthquake we all could be homeless and be in their shoes.
