I am glad to see this settled. While it is possible that a further review would result in compensation to the County for actual overtime paid, it is hard to imagine that the costs of such follow-up would be less than $5000. The principle that people demanding recounts be required to pay costs has been upheld.
A legally unnecessary redistricting is always suspect.
It is a crazy idea when SLO is offering special free parking days to get people downtown. Merchants don't want to deal with making change and not everyone has a bank card. If you have to pay for parking, tourists can just as easily go to Pismo Beach. It hurts locals the most, who get to enjoy the local delights in the off season. It's enough we have to pay "tourist rates" in the restaurants without being "nickel and dimed" on parking. The Morro Bay area has been my home for fifteen years. I don't like seeing it turned into a "money machine". I can still remember when it was a relatively quiet town, all those years ago when the power plant sound kept away the faint of heart.
To those of us who care about the books, this sounds crazy. There is no way SLO can have the inventory and availability of the large Black Gold Library System. I don't know what other "services" this is supposed to enable but, for me, libraries are first about books - everything else is optional.
Clearly the last thing Santa Cruz need is more articles encouraging people to go there. I lived in adjacent Capitola for seven years. On the weekend, it was faster to walk across the town.
Re: “Judge rules in election recount requester's favor for debt settlement trial”
"Partially prevailed" would be more accurate. While the County might get a review of costs related to overtime actually paid, I doubt that it would could be done for less than $5000. The principal that people requesting recounts should pay the costs has been upheld. The only thing is question was the precise amount.
