Gurnee had been a democrat for more than 20 years. He switched under Clinton, then switched back under Trump.
Too bad the Shredder presents jokes as serious comments (my joke about spray painting the sign.) I have also joked about spray painting the black building downtown that everyone hates, but this does not mean I am saying this seriously. Oh! well! What can you expect from someone who hides behind such a name as Shredder?
The Shredder conveniently omits that Gurnee is supported by Christine Mulholland, Allen Settle, Peg Pinard, Kathy Smith, Kenneth Clark, and John Ewan, all moderate or moderate progressives. Come on Shredder, if you are going to trash someone, you should at least try to be more honest!
Answer to ra 237: The "older" generation had to struggle to purchase a home in SLO years ago and many of us had to purchase a home elsewhere--Los Osos, AG, Atascadero-- wait 5-10 years, sell it for a profit, and then finally purchase a home here in SLO . Salaries have historically been too low for the cost of living here so we were in the same position that you are in now. The difference is that we lived where we could afford. Your "entitlement" attitude is not flattering, and your claim that you are in a unique situation, is just plain false. We have all been there and resent it when we hear the accusation that we got ours and now we don't want you to have yours. We struggled and found a way without ruining the quality of life of this lovely city by cramming it with more homes than our infrastructure can handle.
Throwing dirt at people with absolutely no proof (like the accusation against Gurnee) and then lamenting the fact that other people do the same thing... hmm... And trying to portray someone as racist because he linked two words starting with the letter N, and condemned both of them. Is this new journalism?
Shredder, whoever you are, if you were a bit more civil and much less biased, people would not be worried about being interviewed by you. But you have such a way of twisting whatever people say or do that most prefer to stay miles away from you. Your page is supposed to be funny, and--yes--you say it is never civil, but at the very least, you could try to be more objective. You are just about as objective and thoughtful as Trump. So... you like Heidi, and you rush to her rescue every time she is attacked by anyone. Fine with me. But, please, don't get into a rant against people who don't share your adulation. Their beliefs are just as worthy of respect as yours.
Re: “I am undocumented”
Call me bleeding heart, socialist, whatever, but I will never ever condemn a seven year old for whatever mistake her parents made. Once you learn to live in hiding and fear, it is very difficult to come out of it. I don't expect those who so harshly condemn Adelita to understand this, but I want her to know that some of us do, and that compassion can be found in this unforgiving country. I know of a young man who was brought here from Mexico at age 14. He later married an American woman and had two children, so he decided to try to regularize his situation and did everything right, paid taxes, hired a lawyer, filled all the papers, etc. He was arrested and sent back to Mexico, and stayed there almost starving for 17 months. He got out of it only because of the huge support he received from important residents, including local politicians, and he finally became a citizen. I doubt that those of you who condemn Adelita would be willing to go through 17 months of hell, away from your family, and without even knowing if you will get out of it.
