And I have yet to see any accurate and reliable studies about the economics of OHV. As Karl pointed out that would be a significant economic investment. Visit SLO will tell you they simply didn't have the money to fund a real reliable study. Half a million goes to the local economy, but Oceano (the gateway to the dunes) can't fund a fire department, has 9 vacant lots on Pier Ave. (which looks like crap) and can't find the money for Parks and Recreation. Give me a break. OHV has a history of doing absolutely nothing for Oceano. And as a result - absolutely nothing for SLO County.
No real way to mix "street legal vehicles" and recreation. Who goes play on a freeway? Even kids are taught not to play in the street! Add in the annoying flags, engine noise, huge gutters to walk thru, more trash left behind because now they can bring in cases of beer instead of just a bottle or 2 and the whole thing is a disgusting attempt by State Parks to bully the residents of Oceano. Oceano beach is not closed. It's open! to people - kids, seniors, families, surfers, walkers, dog walkers, picnics, kite flyers, sand castle builders, volleyball players, fishermen, bike riders, boogie boarders, birders, etc..... Go visit. Just leave your vehicles on the pavement. Is that really SO hard!
We are coming together! The Dunes Alliance was formed in 2019. 11 environmental organizations and we welcome more to join us. The Oceano Beach Community Association has been actively working to keep the Oceano Beach vehicle free and finally close the Pier Ave gate that was designated as “temporary” in 1982. Join us. People for the Dunes!
What burger placed died? If it was Adams Burger they just needs to open. Business would booming.
Re: “The Oceano Airport doesn't serve Oceano”
Kim, I'd be interested in learning more. Small planes still use lead or low lead fuel.
