Re: “SLO Planning Commission opposes latest version of Anholm bikeway

"'The real preferred resolution is to leave things as they are,' Gurnee said."

Well isn't that the summation of Gurnee's entire platform.

Come on Gurnee, let's see your plan to make Santa Rosa Street safe to bike for all ages, because we need to focus on arterial. Oh, you don't have one?

Re: “SLO Planning Commission opposes latest version of Anholm bikeway

Once again, elderly conservatives are taking a stand to prevent anything that would help bring San Luis Obispo out of the 1990s.

Re: “Arroyo Grande Council to disband traffic, parks, and historical resource commissions

If the city want's to save another $30,000 a year it should discontinue health benefits for the council. All members have access to health insurance through their (or their spouses) place of employment.

Re: “Cunningham bucks Trump's efforts to roll back vehicle efficiency standards

Cap and trade is a horrible deal for CA.
EPA is killing industry across the board in the name of clean air and its a TERRIBLE DEAL for CA to have the standard so high for clean air that it chokes out industry.

Re: “SLO County investigates Abel Maldonado for alleged cannabis or hemp grow

San Luis Obispo seems to be stuck in the Nixon era when all anyone admitted publicly was shown in Reefer Madness [none of which is accurate].
Now former drug warrior politicians say their thinking has evolved'. Nice. Where were they in the 1960s, 70s and where are they today? Looking at the potential profits, I bet.
It astonishes me that so many individuals much younger than me know so little about cannabis.
It is one plant with two major strains.
One is high in THC [gets you high], the other in CBD [medicinal]. The latter we call Hemp using the fibers for clothing, rope, paper and CBD oils. CBD oils can also be extracted from the the high in THC plants generally called cannabis or marijuana. Anything from the Hemp plant can be sold in any store or purchased on line paying normal sales taxes. Cannabis, on the other hand, is severely controlled from seeds to stores and delivery services for patients and heavily taxed as well.
Said controls will ensure the black market endures until politicians wise up and let growers grow and sellers sell with a minimum of government controls.

Re: “The art of politics: SLO artists tackle everything from The Donald to the local housing crisis

Beat you feel dumb now that there has been so much good come from his policy's. It has become very clear that the hate is actually overwhelmingly from the lateft. And that Dem party has proved to be filled with lies and criminal activity. This country voted him in, but rather than allowing the man to do what they people voted for him to do, all the left want to do is try to rip him apart. They are not for this country, they are for them selves. They would rather see the country be in worse shape just so they can proclaim how evil republicans are than to actually step off of the soap box and want whats best for the country.

Alexis, without the proper permitting/ licensing, it IS illegal to grow cannabis and hemp. He is without license.

Re: “SLO County investigates Abel Maldonado for alleged cannabis or hemp grow

He should be left alone because it's not illegal to grow and even if he is growing it's not hurting anyone, I mean not as bad as trying to slander someone's names just for growing plants are you kidding me, grow up and take your nose out of other peoples business.

Re: “Tensions boil over at July 26 SLO mayoral forum for Progressives Club's endorsement

It's bizarre that the "progressives" are the ones who are opposing change. Change-averse folks are normally known as "conservatives".

Re: “All that's left: SLO County families cope with loss in the wake of the opioid epidemic

Thank you for this article, & specifically, emphasizing the point that addiction is a disease. Its crazy to think of how many millions of Americans still question this. And say things like, just quit. Like its that easy. Its not.
Whats crazy is I cant tell you how many times I did say that, to my mom, after years of her opioid use, and the trauma it caused me, my family, my extended family, etc. Sometime I still think that, even after 5 years of sobriety myself. Should I know better? Well, I do. I know its a disease, and yet it still hurts. There are so many reasons for our current opioid epidemic. And there are countless solutions too. But ultimately, it takes that one individual who is suffering, whether from opioids or any other addiction, to admit they need help, and actually be willing to receive the help that is offered to them. And to do the work that it takes, the work that these helpers are suggesting they do.

Sometimes I wonder why I was able to get sober and live a really happy life without my medication for the last five years when my mom has been suffering with her disease for over half my life. I think the answer lies beyond just her and my story. It lies in the need for this to no longer be a closet issue. It lies in the need for this disease to be treated like any other, with ample medical help, and clear and transparent communication between the helping community. And most importantly, this disease deserves the same love and compassion that we freely offer to those afflicted with other diseases. Perhaps then, we could make a long lasting dent on the suffering that affects millions of addicts, & their loved ones, every day.
