Sorry to have to share that Zaf Iqbal’s commentary, “Trump unmasked,” in last week’s issue was boring. This was Mr. Iqbal’s third consecutive monthly lambast of Donald Trump with nothing new to learn. We get it. He doesn’t think much of Trump and won’t be voting for him, but, Mr. Iqbal, it’s time to advance the story, and I have a few suggestions.
How about a commentary on last week’s public comments by FBI Director Comey that Hillary Clinton was extremely careless when handling sensitive emails? That she did not tell the truth to Congress while under oath and lied to the American people about the email fiasco. And that she wasn’t particularly sophisticated when it came to the care and functionality of emails. Then, contrast that with the assertion that she’s the most qualified person ever to run for president. There’s a commentary I’d be interested in reading.
Or one on the status of race relations in America after the more than seven-year tenure of our first black president. Focus on the “hope and change” we were promised in in the 2008 campaign and contrast that to today’s dim reality. Or how President Obama contends that he’s ended two wars (Iraq and Afghanistan), yet it seems the enemy has a different opinion. Or the promise that he’d close Guantanamo by the end of his first year in office yet after seven years it’s still operating. How about some analysis on these topics?
Anyway, Mr. Iqbal, we all know California is not going to go for Trump. So much ink is being wasted while other important topics are ignored. Your editor probably didn’t want to tell you this, but it’s time to move on.
