Yes, today's drivers are terrible

Rick Tibben - Nipomo

I could have written the Jerry James four-part cartoon (Feb. 14).

The fourth part is a pet peeve of mine: people getting on the freeway at ridiculously slow speeds. They must have missed the Shell Oil informational movie I saw in the ’50s. It indicated that the proper way to get on the freeway is to get up to freeway speed in order to merge. A modern car can stop about four times faster than it can accelerate, so you cannot use not being able to stop as an excuse.

The No. 2 is also a peeve: people not using their turn signals. Of course, I don’t believe I have ever seen a law enforcement officer use theirs, so not a good example. I just love the people who enter a turn lane, stop, and then turn on their turn signal.

Oh, and No. 3. I recall that the California Motor Vehicle Code requires that when you have five or more cars piled up behind you and you can move over to let them pass, you are required to do so.
