Wind power is not just humungous propellers making a lot of wind noise and obstructing bird flyways. I have been checking into it and there are wind turbines that are efficient, need lower maintenance than those monster turbines, and are very quiet. (They look like egg beaters turned upside down.)
Unlike solar electric generation, which will never pay back in its current state of development, wind turbines can recover investment costs in eight years or fewer and provide absolutely free electricity for 40 or more years.
Although they may not be acceptable in some circumstances because of viewshed problems, 35-foot single-pipe towers should be little problem where population is not dense. Perhaps residents would be willing to trade some open viewsheds for free power and reduced dependence on unreliable foreign energy
