We need the grass roots

Whenever there is a special budget committee set up in Congress by the Dempublican and Republicrat politicians to reach a “balanced” approach to budgets and deficits, you can bet that working people, veterans, students, minorities, and the poor are going to take a hit. To these political servants of the big banks and corporations, “balanced” means trimming the life from measures for our families and communities.

The recent “bi-partisan” budget deal is not even that good. Pensions of veterans are cut, food stamp cuts remain, Medicare payments to doctors are cut further, and there is no extension of long-term unemployment benefits. Corporations and the wealthy are not hit at all, and the Pentagon is given extra money. Meanwhile, many fees are increased or created—more headaches for all.

The twin parties of capital are completely owned and operated by money and influence from the plutocratic oligarchy that dominates all spheres of our society. They wear different masks and make different sounds at election time, but when push comes to shove they fall in line behind their masters. The axe of budget cuts wielded by them will always fall overwhelmingly on the heads of regular people.

It is decades past time for the creation of a new and genuine mass grassroots political party of the left, along with powerful progressive movements and fighting democratic unions, to fight for and represent the oppressed sectors of society, independent of corporate and other corrupt, anti-democratic influence, including the corporatist Democratic Party.
