This Morro Bay council does have spirit

We can assure John Gajdos that the Sierra Club is not a “government organization,” nor do we make decisions for the Morro Bay City Council. The California Coastal Commission, on the other hand, is a “government” organization—minus Mr. Gajdos’ ironic quotation marks—one with ultimate authority over the coastal development plans of California cities, no matter how much “spirit” they may have (“Morro Bay’s ruling majority lacks the founding spirit,” Jan. 23).

We invite him to consider that unlike a string of recent Morro Bay City Council majorities, the current council has shown quite a lot of spirit and “independent will” lately (it was in all the papers). It has also shown a refreshing respect for the rule of law, especially the laws that protect the environment, which is what may have caused Mr. Gajdos’ confusion.

We must also inform Mr. Gajdos that while Jeremy Irons was great in The Lion King and Lolita, he is not the mayor of Morro Bay.

Ed. note: Don’t blame John Gajdos for the Jeremy/Jaime Irons mix-up; that was our executive editor’s fault. Read more about the mistake in a correction here.
