Keep speaking truth to power

This seems to be a week of fairy tales (cartoonists, take note): The Emperor’s New Clothes, Pinocchio, and Little Red Riding Hood come to mind.

President Trump may be my president, like it or not, but I didn’t elect him, and were we still living in an age when enraged peasants with pitch forks stormed the manor, I would be among them. If only we had a system of government where a vote of “no confidence” could topple those in power, but we are stuck with waiting four years, at least, to remove the new dictator.

In contrast to the president’s “alternative facts” as Kellyanne Conway has dubbed them, we have the truth to power spoken by the women as well as men of the world, including the estimated more than 7,000 who marched Saturday in San Luis Obispo after hearing eloquent speakers and inspiring musicians in Mitchell Park.

Now, although we won’t have literal pitchforks, we have another chance to march when holds a massive event in Washington, D.C., this spring. Go to the website for information and until then, keep on truckin’, as we said in the ’60s (or was it, “keep on keepin’ on”?).
