It's time for good role models in politics

I’m frustrated. I am a longtime educator in the San Luis Obispo school system. We diligently model, expect, and teach civility. We work hard to prevent bullying, and we are quick to re-direct misbehavior. We offer positive role models at every opportunity.

How can we expect our children to follow these values when we don’t expect the same of ourselves and from our “leaders?” How can we elect people on a national and a local level who participate in questionable financial practices and even break the law? Why do we tolerate people who bully, manipulate, threaten, and insult others with impunity? What kind of precedent are we setting for our children’s future?

Adults despair over the current political scene. It’s not “up to the children.” We are their example. We must stand up for civility and choose positive role models on a local and national level now. Debbie Peterson, our local candidate for SLO County District 3 supervisor, is committed to leading with integrity and civility. Peterson is a representative who builds cooperation and cannot be bought. I would be proud to point to Debbie Peterson as role model for public service. Peterson is the change we need
