So the Paso Robles water basin is almost empty. That might explain why the water that belongs to the city of San Luis Obispo in the Salinas Reservoir was diverted last winter while the Whale Rock Reservoir remained deficient. I hope the ratepayers in SLO Town are satisfied with the charitable contribution of their government giving away their primary water source while doubling their rates. You see, water released from the Salina Reservoir flows north into the depleted Paso Robles groundwater basin.
As far as the scare tactic that Nacimiento water would only be used in case of dire emergencies, that myth will be debunked when the Nacimiento valves are soon opened to San Luis, which is the only participant ready to accept it while the others are years away. Then the rest of the city’s primary water source in the Salinas Reservoir can be gradually allocated for North County use per the county’s plan of regional amalgamation.
Robert McDonald’s Jan. 21 New Times article insinuating a Chinatown (the movie, stupid!) comparison to the Nacimiento Project was spot on. A surreptitious plan is now coming to fruition.
