Two teams will bid for stadium use 

The San Luis Obispo City Council voted to allow two semi-pro teams to call Sinsheimer Stadium home in the 2008 baseball season.

The council took the Parks and Recreation Department's recommendations in full and decided to consider a Request for Proposal (RFP) from each of the teams, meaning that the two organizations will bid against each other for shared use of the field.

Councilman Allen Settle was the only dissenter, citing concerns that the two teams could be left financially struggling, perhaps incapable of serving the community. Ultimately, the majority of the council members decided that it wasn't their business, and that the city should consider what's best for the facility not private business.

Last year's season was fraught with complications, from the schedule to the concession stand, when a second semi-pro team, the Rattlers, was allowed to join the existing Blues. This year, to free up room in the schedule, the men's senior baseball league was told to find a new facility during June and July.

The Parks and Rec Department is hoping that last year's problems will be ironed out in the RFP process, but Blues Manager Tim Golden said that the problem of scheduling will still be an issue.

"Two teams does not mean more baseball for the community," Golden warned the council. "It means more time on the road. The thing I really hate about that thing [the RFP] is that it doesn't take into consideration the fans."
