Receptionist jailed in student sex abuse case 

A 24-year-old receptionist at Paso Robles' Flamson Middle School was sent to County Jail on July 30 to begin a 270-day sentence after pleading no contest to sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy at the school.

Cora Solorio also received five years probation and will have to register as a sex offender under the sentence, which included felony convictions for performing a lewd act on a child and for performing oral sex on a person under 14.

An April New Times review found that Solorio was working outside of her formal job responsibilities when she had contact with that student. Although she was serving the role of a para-educator while she tutored the boy, Solorio's formal title was receptionist and her job definition did not include teaching or tutoring students. The arrangement angered union officials, but Superintendent Patrick Sayne dismissed the matter as a bureaucratic error.

Joe Quiroz, Solorio's stepfather and a member of the Paso Robles Public School Board, said her family was pleased with the sentence.

"It could have been a lot, lot worse," he said.

The district attorney's office had sought five years in state prison, according to court documents.

Quiroz said the mother of three has been in counseling since February and he hopes sessions will continue during her term.
