Eat, drink, be merry, and foster the adoption of homeless dogs and cats at a gala fundraiser alfresco under the stars amid the brilliant flowers and lush foliage at Ron’s Nursery in Grover Beach on Wednesday evening, Nov. 11, from 5 p.m. to 8 pm at 1207 13th St. The glittering gathering will benefit three needy shelters: Befriended Felines, Feline Network, and North County Humane Society.

A mere $10 donation buys three pours of prime local wine; half of the proceeds will directly aid the three rescue organizations. There will be delectable seafood treats from the The Quarterdeck restaurant in Arroyo Grande to help energize bidding in a silent auction and there’ll be a lively raffle to help the animals, with tickets at only $2 each or six for $10. Ron’s Nursery is discounting everything at the garden center by 20 percent especially for the event, including a wide variety of gift items, and will donate 10 percent of all sales proceeds from that night. The nursery will be adorned in festive holiday decorations and great music will rev up the crowd.

“I saw a need for these animal shelters to come together; we’re all trying to do the same things. Let’s just all network and become a group,” said animal advocate Rhonda O’Dell, who arranged this and two other such benefits. “Let’s get cats spayed and neutered so we don’t keep breeding them. If we can raise a couple thousand dollars at each event it will really help, so we’ll keep having them.”

The two preceding benefits were held at wineries and were very successful: One last November raised $3600 and another in May this year raised $2900.

“One thing different about this event is we’ve never had live animals at our fundraisers because the locations were smaller. This time we will have cats available for adoption,” said O’Dell.  “My mission is to help people find an animal to rescue and love, so they can experience how good it feels to know they’ve saved a life.”

North County Humane Society has been a beneficiary of the two earlier fundraisers and will receive $500 from this event, with the other two rescue organizations splitting the remainder of donations. North County Humane Society is currently sheltering more than 200 cats for adoption.

The silent auction will offer luxury vacations at Cambria Pines Lodge and Sycamore Mineral Springs, prizes from Crushed Grape, Otter Productions, Tails, Sandalwood Spa at Trilogy, McLintocks, Edna Valley Vineyard, Seasonal Custom Cuisine Delivered, and much more.
