One Savvi move

One of San Luis Obispo's premier centers for holistic skin treatment and maintenance is moving to a new location in June. It's also retooling its services and going "green" to promote the healthy management of skin and a healthy environment.

# Established by Clinical Esthetician and Certified Massage Therapist Juli Platzer, the new Savvi Skin and Body Studio, located at 2078 Parker St., suite 200, opens on June 1.

Platzer decided to change the name of the business formerly known as Jewel Studio as well as add staff and treatment offerings, and move to a larger office in order to provide a healthier environment for her customers.

"This is the evolution of my business into a holistic center with skilled professionals trained in skin and body care," Platzer said. "We built a natural, relaxing setting using 'green' materials to promote a healthy environment and a quiet haven that our clients will enjoy."

Handled by Andrew Platzer Custom Cabinetry, the new location features cabinets constructed with formaldehyde-free building materials, which help to improve air quality by eliminating the emission of formaldehyde from glues used in "non-green" building materials.

In addition to the green cabinetry, the studio includes insulation comprised of cotton denim rather than fiberglass, which Platzer chose for its superior insulation and sound barrier abilities.

To round off the green motif, the studio also features premium design woodwork utilizing ribbon-striped sapele and vertical grain Doug fir to create an inspiring environment, Platzer said.

"It certainly is healthier but not necessarily cost effective," Platzer said jokingly. "Yet with the better insulation and sound proofing, I think the long-term benefit of the environment we've created for our clients outweighs the short-term costs."

With the green amenities in place, Platzer also decided to revamp her staff and present some unique services. The studio offers traditional facials and state-of-the-art skin care, including acne treatments, skin care just for men and children, anti-aging therapies, light therapy, waxing, body facials, massage, and acupuncture, all while using all-natural products from Epicuren, SkinCeuticals, Jane Iredale, and Rhonda Allison.

One of the new services offered at Savvi is "Happy Hour" acupuncture customers can drop in without reservation on Wednesdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Savvi is also offering a special for the month of June. The "Epicuren Tropical Escape" special features an all-over body exfoliating facial wrap which Platzer says is "very yummy" for the body for $65 (as opposed to the regular price of $95).

And if you happen to find yourself at the upcoming Art in the Park at Dinosaur Caves in Shell Beach on June 2, look for the Savvi Girls, who'll be offering makeovers and eyebrow shaping to celebrate your beautiful face.
