NEW TIMES: How did Designated Driver get its start?
WESTBROOK: DDI was founded by my partner, Sean Perryman, and me. DDI got its start in Fort Pierce, Florida in the late ‘90s so people could go out and have a great time but return home safely and responsibly. We also provide the service of getting your car home safely. DDI started in San Luis Obispo in 2009.
NEW TIMES: How much do your services cost?
WHITMORE: The base cost of rides is $35 for the first 10 miles; after that it’s an additional $2 per mile. If you have friends you’d like to drop off, we can do that for $5 more, and if you’re in the mood for a midnight snack, that costs $10. We also offer chauffeur services for private parties, including weddings and wine tours.
NEW TIMES: Do you offer memberships or special rates; how do people reach DDI?
WHITMORE: We do offer memberships for people who’d like to use our services regularly. We have more information on our website about how to schedule a time for us to come and get you, your friends, and your car home safely. You can call to schedule an appointment or go onto our website to schedule one at www.sloddi.com
