NewTimes staff wins awards 

The national Association of Alternative Weeklies has awarded New Times executive editor Ryan Miller third place for Art Feature writing for 2007 among member newspapers with circulations under 55,000. More than 100 newspapers from around the country submitted at total of more than 1,400 entries for the contest, which culminated at the association's annual conference in Philadelphia last week. The judges selected his feature "Faire Play" (New Times 7/18/2007) about the Central Coast Renaissance Festival for the honor. The association cited The Shredder for the national second place award in the Column category.

The competition was a joint project of the AAN and the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
