Mardi Gras weekend fizzles once again 

For the fourth consecutive year, Mardi Gras in San Luis Obispo was pretty tame, and, according to at least one partygoer, pretty lame.

On Feb. 1, approximately 100 law enforcement officers were deployed in the city to help ensure that festivities didn't get out of control. By 5:30 a.m., officers had made a total of 20 arrests: 14 of which were for alcohol and drug related offenses, while two were for assaults. In addition to the arrests, officers issued 24 citations: 17 were traffic related, four were alcohol related, and three were issued for public urination.

Because of the relatively quiet party conditions, approximately 30 officers were given the next night off. On that night, officers issued seven citations and made six arrests.

The chill celebration behavior, however, wasn't enjoyed by all.

"Mardi Gras in San Luis is not the same as it used to be," said SLO local Josh Biddick. "There were so many cops out, it just wasn't fun. I wish it would go back to the way it used to be."

Fat Tuesday itself, Feb. 5, was even more uneventful than the weekend's festivities, with officers making only two arrests and issuing five citations.

During the entire Mardi Gras period, officers made a total of 28 arrests and issued 36 citations.
