Gunfire keeps cops busy over weekend

Paso Robles police officers responded to two separate shooting incidents July 27 and 28, which resulted in one injury.

Luis Angel, 26, was shot once in the chest the night of July 28 in the parking lot of Dry Creek Apartments, a 400-unit complex located near Creston Road and the Paso Robles Golf Club. He remains in critical yet stable condition, according to Lt. Ty Lewis.

The police department is seeking the public’s assistance in the search for a Hispanic male, described as age 25 to 35 with short-cropped hair and a goatee. Witnesses saw a suspect fleeing the scene in a silver Honda Civic. Before the gunshot rang out at roughly 11:13 p.m., the victim and suspect were seen engaged in some sort of verbal dispute, according to witnesses. Officers arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving calls, according to Lewis.

The day before, a suspect was seen firing a rifle or shotgun into the air while standing in the parking lot of J N J’s Liquor & Food Mart on Spring Street. Officers responded within three minutes, according to Lewis, but the shooter was long gone. Video surveillance showed the suspect, a Hispanic male, fleeing the scene in a white passenger car driven by another suspect. Based on bullet holes in the building’s wall, investigators believe a third, unknown suspect had fired shots at the vehicle. No one was injured, and the police department told New Times the incident was gang-related.

As of press time, no arrests had been made. Anyone with information regarding either crime is encouraged to contact the Paso Robles Police Department at 237-6464.
