Leading researchers here on the Council of Collegiate Columnists, which is totally not a fake organization, have proven that, as predicted, the diets of wild college students living in their natural habitats change around the ritualistic time commonly referred to as “Midterm Season.” 

Ramen noodles, already a staple of collegiate diets, more than quadruple in use! Recycling bins overflow with the remains of caffeinated beverages. Sneaking into the classrooms to witness the rituals themselves is usually frowned upon, and occasionally gets oneself arrested. Luckily, there are some midterms that present themselves to others for viewing in the first place. An excellent upcoming example is the Cuesta College Choirs Spring Concert, occurring Sunday, March 13, at 3 p.m. at the Cuesta College Cultural and Performing Arts Center. This combined effort between several classes in the Cuesta College music department is known to please attendees from start to finish. 

Prolific conductors John Knutson and Cassandra Tarantino will be accompanied on piano by the talented Janis Johnson. The Cuesta College Concert Choir, though an entry-level group, sounds like anything but. Through the incredible work of Tarantino, these students are always learning new and better technique, regardless of prior skill level, and it shows in the great sound the group makes. This time around, folk music is the name of their game, with composers such as Aaron Copeland and Edward Elgar in their repertoire. Knutson’s Chamber Singers are a popular treat. This event features their work by Henry Purcell and Steve Foster. Finally, beloved vocal jazz staple of Cuesta College, Voce, performs its incredible a capella music at this event as well! Included are covers of George Benson, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Keb’ Mo’, and the Steve Miller Band. General admission for this event is $15, $10 for students.

However you spend your midterms, as hard as it is to remember, never forget that it’s OK to struggle. Give your work the best shot that you possibly can and you’re guaranteed to at least feel good about it afterward. Tutors are available for all who need their services, and there are lots of opportunities to meet up with your professors for their office hours. Take advantage of them and ask every question necessary to get the job done. You can do it! We believe in you!
