The most wonderful time of the year: It’s Harvest Wine Weekend Oct. 17 through 19 throughout Paso Robles Wine Country. Experience the blood, sweat, and tears that characterize this hectic and exciting time of the year paired with unique parties and harvest events unfolding across the area (find a detailed map and information at pasowine.com) … The Paso Robles Downtown Wineries are gearing up for their first ever Sip & Swing Harvest Wine Fest, Oct. 18 from noon to 4 p.m. It’s all going down at Derby Wine Estates in Paso Robles with swanky music by Tipsy Gypsies and wines from 16 knockout producers (call 238-6300 for more information) … FYI: SLO Wine Country’s own harvest celebration is slated for early next month, so you may want to mark your calendar now for the weekend of Nov. 8.

Get your gravy on: If you haven’t had the pleasure of chowing down at Hoover’s Beef Palace in Templeton, now is your last chance. The meaty institution will close its doors for good on Nov. 9, so hurry in and pay your respects (and order the chicken-fried steak!) … It’s official! The Paso Robles AVA has been bestowed with 11 new viticultural areas, which means more specific recognition for the area’s many diverse microclimates and unique growing subregions (check out the news over at pasowine.com) … Granada Hotel & Bistro in downtown SLO recently welcomed its new general manager, Robert L. Williams, an award-winning, certified sommelier with more than a decade of wine experience under his belt (check out their winter menu at granadahotelandbistro.com or stop in and say hello to Robert yourself).

Not just for cows: Graze Kitchen in Pismo Beach is open for business and serving up fresh, health conscious cuisine spiced with local produce (swing by their new dining room at 841 Dolliver St. or call 773-4024) … Adelaida Cellars will break ground on its new hospitality center on Oct. 16 as well as celebrate its HMR Pinot Noir Vineyard’s 50th anniversary (long considered the oldest producing pinot noir vineyard on the Central Coast). Stop by the swinging Paso Robles winery Oct. 17 through 19 for tastes of exclusive HMR pinot noir selections (adelaida.com) … Paso Robles’ Bianchi Winery will showcase its final October Lakeside Concert on Oct. 26 featuring reggae tunes by ComeUnity Band from 1 to 4 p.m. (Call 226-9922, Ext. 33, for details) … Apple season is still going strong, and the selection at Creekside Farm in See Canyon is inspiring. Take home a bag full of fruit or a jug of cider (Whatever you do, stop by their picturesque stand nestled within epic greenery at 1691 See Canyon Road—and be sure to watch for the turkeys and chickens as you drive in).
