Figueroa Mountain Brewing Company's newest offering is a lot like your buddy that howls, "One more drink!" as the lights are being turned on at the bar and, somehow, makes it seem like a really good idea. I mean, what else would you expect from a beer named after Ice Cube's controversial hit song, "Check Yo Self?" At 7.25 percent alcohol, this peachy-caramely "hip-hoppy" double red rye ale might just inspire you to insult the bouncer before getting in a parking lot brawl with a parked bicycle (hence, the fist emblazoned on the front of the beer can and parental advisory sticker on the back). Note: While the folks at Fig Mountain have expressed the sentiment that they do not encourage people to literally "wreck" themselves, they do want you to have a little fun with these bright yellow and blue craft cans. And I totally support that.

With great vineyards come great responsibility—to make great wine, that is. At Turtle Rock Vineyards in Paso Robles, it's all about taking pampered, sustainably farmed Templeton Gap fruit and creating wine that shines with the overarching mentality of "quality over quantity." Something tells me you've heard all of this before. It doesn't matter. This credo, however simple, is where flavor soars and the term "boutique" earns its prowess. This juicy, small lot GSM is a great example of a wine made with sincerity and care: Bright red fruit, chalky tannins, and 22 months in new French oak come together to create a layered crescendo of dark fruit, tobacco, baking spice, and mocha. In Paso Robles, it doesn't really get much better than this. You can save this baby till the cows come home, but I say drink it. Life is short.
