SLO County libraries honor Asian-Pacific Heritage Month 

In addition to Free Comic Book Day, May also brings us Asian-Pacific Heritage Month. As such, SLO County libraries will be celebrating with a series of readings, film screenings, performances, and displays.

On May 2, you can see Monkeys Grasp for the Moon, an interactive program about Chinese American artist Xu Bing, at the Atascadero Library. That same day, the Cal Poly Lion Dance Team will be performing at the SLO Library branch with band accompaniment. All ages welcome. And to round out the day, you can catch a screening of the 2000 Western comedy Shanghai Noon at 2 p.m. at the Nipomo Library.

Beginning May 5, the San Miguel Library will feature an exhibit titled Japanese Folk Arts. On May 6, at both the Cayucos and Los Osos Library, local author Naomi Shibata will be discussing her memoir, Bend with the Wind. Shibata is the daughter of Grace Eto whose family has been on the Central Coast for close to a century.

Happenings continue throughout the end of May and include a wide range of events, including a talk from SLO County clerk-recorder and Bruce Lee biographer, Tommy Gong.
