Plein Air Festival

The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, formerly known as the San Luis Obispo Art Center, will present the 2010 Plein Air Festival from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3. Unfamiliar with the festival? Dozens of artists from across California—and even Minnesota and Arizona—will descend upon the county and paint its picturesque land and seascapes. So get out your planners and take note of these dates:

Sept. 27,
11 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Artists paint throughout SLO County. “From the Studio to the Outdoors” is an exhibit of a studio and plein air painting by each artist at the museum. At 7 p.m., hear a live concert under the stars at the nearby Mission Plaza lawn.

Sept. 28, all day: Festival artists paint throughout SLO County. From 3 to 5 p.m., join Kids Paint Out at the Mission Plaza lawn. At 7 p.m., see a plein air painting demo by Douglas Simms Stenhouse at the museum.

Sept. 29,
all day: Artists paint throughout SLO County. At
7 p.m., attend Movie Night and see a documentary film on plein air painting at the museum.

Sept. 30,
all day: Artists paint throughout SLO County.
For Poetry Night, poets read the poems at 7 p.m. at the
museum they created while shadowing painters on location.

Oct. 1, 6 p.m.: Join the Collectors Party, a $100 ticketed event for the first 100 collectors and an exclusive preview of the exhibition and sale at the museum. From 6 to 9 p.m., enjoy Art After Dark, the public opening of the exhibition, and sales. Free admission. At
